Agenda

The Institute of Environmental and Water Studies (IEWS) of Birzeit University has the honor to host the Palestinian Water Forum, which will be held on 28th of May 2014 at Birzeit University.

The Forum will explore the priority needs of the Palestinian water sector, with a special focus on the water & energy nexus and private sector participation. It will provide opportunity, to all stakeholders working in the water and energy sector, to discuss current obstacles and opportunities. Moreover it seeks to harmonize initiatives between research institutes and the sector needs.

The water and energy discourse and current obstacles  within practical cases (waste water treatment, reuse, desalination) shall be plenary discussed in order to seek opportunities for private sector participation. The Forum seeks to establish new opportunities and partnerships among the sector stakeholders.

Presentations, panel discussions and plenary discussions shall be held relating to the following themes:

1. Water and Energy: Gaza crisis and obstacles relating to the water and energy discourse  (waste water treatment, reuse, and desalination)

2. Private sector participation: Roles and responsibilities, risk mitigation and the future of PPP’s

3. National Research Agenda:  How can research support the national sector needs?
