The Institute of Environmental and Water Studies at Birzeit University organized a field study from 26-31 / 8/2019 to several Dutch cities as part of an activity of the IMGF project in the field of "Sustainable management of industrial wastewater from the agro-food industry" with financial support from Palestinian - Dutch cooperation in the field of water "PADUCO 2".
The visit was attended by a number of decision-makers, Eng. Hadeel Al-Tamimi, Director of Projects in Hebron Municipality, and Eng. Saja Younes, from the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Nablus, and Eng. Ali Ode,Executive Director of the Union of Water Service Providers in Palestine
It was organized and supervised by the project manager, Dr. Rashed Al-Saed, Director of the Institute of Environmental and Water Studies at Birzeit University in collaboration with the Dutch partner, IHE Delft Institute.
The purpose of the visit was to transfer Dutch expertise and exchange knowledge on industrial wastewater treatment systems and techniques from agricultural food products plants (vegetables and juices). The poultry slaughterhouse and meat processing were also visited, where the water treatment system in the slaughterhouse was identified and disposed of in ways that are environmentally friendly and affordable. A visit was also made to facilities of the pharmaceutical industry and a developer of systems for the use of biogas from anaerobic treatment plants for use as a clean energy source.
At the end of the tour, the participating group visited the IHE Delft Institute and met with several experts and lecturers at the Institute and attended a presentation at two meetings during which a presentation and discussion of modern Dutch technology systems for the management and treatment of industrial wastewater.
